GHK-Cu: Copper-Complex Source Methods and Documentation Review

Define the chemical question before using the name

GHK, copper complexes of GHK, and GHK-Cu product labels can appear together in searches, but they are not interchangeable records. A source must state the ligand, metal form, stoichiometry, solution conditions, and method before it can support a chemical comparison.

Defined source: complex equilibria and spectroscopy

Conato et al. (2001; PMID 11325542) investigated copper-complex formation equilibria for glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine (GHK) and two synthetic analogues. The authors used potentiometry, solution calorimetry, UV-VIS spectrophotometry, circular dichroism, and electron-paramagnetic-resonance spectroscopy. Their results concern the ligands and experimental conditions reported in that work, including different complex stoichiometries and stabilities.

The source is useful because it makes its analytical methods visible. It does not identify a supplier lot, establish another preparation’s copper content or form, or provide a biological or handling conclusion for a received material.

What to retain in a source note

Record the exact ligand wording, copper-complex conditions, techniques used, reported species, and limits of the experiment. Do not transfer observations made with a synthetic analogue to GHK, or observations made in one solution condition to a different material or method.

Separate documentation for the received material

Keep the product label, lot identifier, receipt record, and supplied analytical documents together. Record only the method and result that each document states. A study citation cannot verify an external batch, and an analytical document cannot establish the result of a published experiment.
