What the cited study identifies

Pfaus et al. (2004; PMID 15226502) identifies PT-141 as a peptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone and describes its interaction with central melanocortin receptors in the context of the authors’ rat experiment. Experimental system in PMID 15226502

The paper studied ovariectomized Long-Evans female rats paired with sexually vigorous Long-Evans male rats. The methods describe estrogen-and-progesterone-primed and estrogen-alone groups. Before the PT-141 tests, the females underwent ten preliminary behavioural tests; the article states that testing occurred at four-day intervals during the middle third of the dark circadian cycle.
